Recruit and Fundraise

Tips for Recruiting Team Members
1. Set a Goal
- Set a goal for the number of Team Members you want on the team. Remember there is no limit to how large your team can be. The more Team Members you have fund raising, the more you can help.
2. Get the Word Out …
- Make a list of possible Team Members. Don't forget to ask your friends, family, neighbours and co-workers to recruit their family and friends to join the team. Approach vendors, customers and clients and recruit them to your Team as well.
- Set up an online account. Send an e-mail inviting everyone in your address book to join your Team.
- Follow up with a phone call or email to find out who is interested in joining your Team.
- Encourage your Team Members to share stories of why they are cycling. Do they have a friend, family member or co-worker who has MS?
3. Get Company Support …
- Ask the manager of your department or company to send an endorsement memo announcing that the Team is cycling and asking everyone to join your Team.
- Make an announcement at your next staff meeting.
- Talk to Human Resources for assistance in your recruiting efforts. Schedule a visit with a TeamMS representative to give a presentation to potential Team Members and management at your company.
4. Display Posters and Brochures Everywhere …
- Display event posters in central locations: company cafeteria, water coolers, restrooms, workout clubs, libraries or church/synagogue bulletin boards, or in any other high traffic areas. Include the Team Captain’s name and phone number in case anyone has any questions or is interested in joining the Team.
- Display a sign-up list in accessible areas to encourage others to join the Team.
- Drop the event brochure with the Team Name already filled out on all your co-worker's desks or in your neighbour's mailbox.
5. Place a Notice in Your Company Newsletter …
- Use company and community newsletters and websites to advertise the Tour and encourage everyone to join your Team.
- Include a tag line about TeamMS in all e-mails you send.
6. Host Sign-up Parties …
- Hold a kick-off breakfast or lunch to get people involved. Afternoon snack breaks or ice cream socials make great kick-offs too.
- Hold a new Team Member registration party. Encourage each Team Member to recruit one person and bring them to the party.
7. Track your Team’s Registration…
- Have your Team Members register online and track your Team’s development and fundraising.
- Keep an updated Team Captain's Activity Log to track your Team's recruitment and fund raising progress.

Tips for Fundraising
1. Set a Team fundraising Goal …
- Challenge your Team to be the Top fundraising Team or Team with the Highest Pledge Average at your Tour.
- Break down your Team's fund raising goal to an individual goal for each Team Member. Challenge your Team Members to join the Bronze, Silver or Gold Clubs.
2. Be Committed...
- Make the first pledge yourself. When your friends, family and colleagues see your name and contribution, they will be more willing to support your efforts.
3. Ask Everyone…
- If you don’t ask they cannot give.
- Ask local businesses you frequent to support you. They will receive a tax receipt for their donation. Don’t forget doctors, dentists, dry cleaners and restaurants.
- Carry your pledge book with you at all times.
4. Pledge Online…
- Use your online registration account to create your own personal fundraising page with a personal message from you.
- Send an e-mail to everyone in your address book asking them to support you. Anyone who donates on-line will be e-mailed a tax receipt immediately.
5. Get Matching Gifts…
- Ask your CEO, president or department manager to sponsor each Team Member.
- Ask if your company has a Matching Gifts program. This is an easy way to double your Team's total. Make sure your Team Members ask their companies too.
6. Send Letters…
- Write letters to friends, family and local businesses. Let them know what you're doing and ask them to pledge you.
7. Organize Fundraisers…
- Have a Dress Down Day. Contact your Human Resources Department to host a dress down day at your office. For a donation, your co-workers will be able to dress down on a specific day. Create stickers or buttons that advertise your team and participation in the Tours for employees to wear in recognition of dressing down.
- Hold a Raffle. Ask your boss if he or she would be willing to donate a paid vacation day or their parking spot for a day.
- Sell Something. Team up with friends, neighbours or co-workers and host a garage sale or bake sale.
