Strides Against MS
Stewart
Wong - Profile
Why did you run and raise pledges for MS?
I run for fitness and the challenge of disciplining my mind
and body for the rigours of a marathon. I raise money for MS
because I believe that the key to MS is within in our reach
and that Canada will play a pivotal role in solving this disease.
We need to continue funding research to find the answer while
helping those who live with it today. Plus, I love the fact
that I can eat whatever I want after a race!! I once had four
plates at an all you can eat buffett after a race!
What was your favorite marathon moment?
I've run Chicago,
New York and Toronto and what keeps me going is the crowds.
I feel I can draw energy from their enthusiasm and support.
Chicago and New York in particular had over 1 million spectators
each. It's hard not to get excited when you have so many
people watching you! I
also love the finish line. It represents a both great achievement
and a chance for me to walk after running for 4+ hours!
What
advice would you give to a new Strider?
Train with intelligence. There are many resources out there that can help you
achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. From 5km to a marathon, it is possible.
It is simply a matter of having the will to prepare. That, and having good shoes
are the keys to successful running.
